Like many others, my mum and I stopped here for one night on the Coast to Coast. A wonderful place to stay - Rachel is a fantastic host, who made us feel utterly welcome straight away. Also like many others, we and the other guests all met each other over tea and biscuits in the living room as we arrived, and it was a rare and lovely experience getting to know other travelers like that. The company that we had booked through had neglected to tell Rachel that I am a vegan and my mum's a vegetarian, but that was no hurdle for our host, who on very short notice went out of her way to make sure that there was plenty for us to eat at breakfast (which was delicious) and for our packed lunches the next day.

Rachel is a wonderful host. All guests arrived around the same time. So she invited all of us to the living room for a tea. We listened to her stories, sipped our tea and were impressed by the wit and sharpness of this woman. The room was without any frills. But the bed was comfortable and the whole house was perfectly clean. The shower was cleaned in less than an hour after use. And as mentioned by others: the breakfast was very delicious. Vegetarian options available.

Rachel is a star. Just a one night stay for me while hiking the Coast to Coast but Rachel bent over backwards to make sure all was ok. On arrival I was welcomed into the living room with other guests and Rachel was full of stories. A drink and a biscuit and all seemed very friendly. A shared bathroom but I knew that before I arrived so wasn’t an issue, could be if you like your own bathroom I guess. I was checking out early to get on my way but Rachel offered to get up and have my breakfast ready at 5:30. The only landlord/lady to do so on my entire 12 day crossing. A superstar and one I’ll certainly stay with again.

We stayed with Rachel at the start of our Coast to coast walk and it was for me the most memorable and most comfortable place we stayed in the twelve days of walking. It was extremely clean and comfortable home from home. Rachel was also very very helpful and as a women of the hills and traveler was very knowledgeable. Thank you so much.

Stayed there with 4 others on our coast to coast walk. Rachael is certainly a character. She immediately made us a pot of tea and cakes. She was very helpful with suggesting places to eat and the walk for the next day. The breakfast was the best of the whole trip! She also provided a packed lunch. A memorable stay.

Every now and then, you stay in a place where the owner and the place are inseparable. This is one of those places. Rachel "is" Gillercombe B&B. She is an incredible lady whose knowledge and experience with Borrowdale are matched by her warmth and helpfulness. Our room wasn't large, and it wasn't en suite, but everything was so clean and comfortable, we felt like we were staying with our favorite aunt! And looking out our window at some of the surrounding fells was truly amazing. Rachel's amazing breakfast set the tone for a wonderful Day 3 of our Coast to Coast walk. We were honored to stay there.

Rachel is a wonderful host, super helpful and does a great breakfast. No phones at the table so you have to chat to fellow guests. Youth Hostel nearby has a bar and does evening meals.

Old style guesthouse where you are a guest. No TV, tea/coffee making in your room or on-suite facilities but the best breakfast ever. Rarely return to places however this is a definite.

Great location, and the breakfast was the best of our 10 day long trip. And the host is a real character the world needs more people like her
